The group

Our mission

The group was founded in 2026 as an informal initiative to bring together, for the first time in a common venue, the Italian scholars of social statistics, with the aim of giving new momentum to the field through targeted lines of action.

Four goals

  1. Revitalise the field of social statistics.
  2. Secure a well-defined, organic recognition of social statistics within the broader field of statistics.
  3. Build networking among scholars from different institutions, especially early-career researchers.
  4. Identify the research themes Italian social statisticians are working on.

Coordination

The group is coordinated by Filomena Maggino (Sapienza University of Rome), Simone Di Zio (“G. d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara) and Massimo Aria (University of Naples Federico II).

How to join

You can join the group by filling in the online membership form, with information about yourself, your role, your institution, your research interests and your contact details.

Membership is open not only to tenured faculty and researchers but also to non-tenured researchers (postdocs, PhD students, research fellows, adjunct lecturers) and to Italian researchers abroad. For any questions, you can reach the coordination team through the Contact page.
